About Terra

Terra is NASA's flagship Earth-observing satellite, carrying five instruments that study the interactions among Earth's atmosphere, lands, oceans, and radiant energy. Orbiting at about 705 km in a sun-synchronous orbit, Terra collects data on cloud cover, aerosols, surface temperature, vegetation, and fire activity. Its instruments — MODIS, ASTER, CERES, MISR, and MOPITT — have provided over two decades of continuous climate and environmental observations used by researchers worldwide.
